What does mechanical exfoliation mean?

When we talk about exfoliation, we refer to regenerating the skin by eliminating the cells of the epidermis (the most superficial layer of the skin). This can be achieved by chemical products using different acids (salicylic, glycolic, lactic, etc.) or mechanically with rough surface sponges or round grains contained in a cream.

What effects does exfoliation have on our skin?

Thanks to exfoliating, it is possible to remove dead skin cells. It helps clean impurities and makes the skin softer. After having exfoliated the surface of the epidermis, the skin can absorb the active ingredients we apply later better, for example vitamin C or hyaluronic acid. Therefore, it is useful to treat the skin after the exfoliation. The cream will penetrate deeper. Moreover, a hydration with lactic acid or shea butter is a good option, especially in dry areas of the skin.
