Content online course for dermatoscopy
Basics of reflected light microscopy
We start with the physical basics of dermatoscopy and review relevant histology – the fundamentals for a good understanding of dermatoscopy. Afterwards, we will show you the most important steps for the optimal evaluation of skin findingsusing a dermatoscope. On the basis of many high-quality pictures you will be able to decide for yourself whether it is a benign or malignant skin lesion.
At the end of the online course you will be able to confidently apply basic diagnostics using a dermatoscope.
Learning objectives:
– Physical basics – how does dermoscopy work?
– Histological skin structure
– Interpreting the color of skin lesions
– Finally understandable: the Tyndall effect
Learning objectives:
– Detailed application of the ABCD Rule
– The melanocytic pigment network
– General patterns
– Additional: Typical localization patterns
Learning objectives:
– Introduction to structured image interpretation

What our participants say

Dermatoscopy images
Thanks to our large collection of dermatoscopy images, you won't be getting used to seeing the same pictures over and over. Most of the high quality photoswere provided by Prof. Kittler from Vienna. In addition, we are constantly adding pictures of patients that we examine in clinical everyday life. This way you always receive up-to-date and clinically relevant knowledge.
Professor Kittler works in the Department of Dermatology of the Medical University of Vienna. We refer to his highly recommended textbook for dermatoscopy and his intensive dermatoscopy course in Vienna (registration by mail).
With our extensive online quiz you can easily repeat the contents and test yourself to see how good you are at interpreting skin changes.
Our didactic method
The content is divided into straightforward lessons using modern medical didactic methods. We offer you an optimal mix of theory and practical image interpretation. We present the basic concepts and reinforce them with memorable visual examples. This is followed by a structured analysis of skin lesions: while we explain the criteria to you, we simultaneously point them out in our videos. This way you combine the auditory with the visual – and enjoy a significantly stronger learning effect!
For reliable image interpretation, we regularly compare benign skin lesions with typical differential diagnoses and accentuate the decisive differences. With the help of the dermatoscope, you will be able to quickly distinguish between harmless and conspicuous skin lesions in everyday clinical practice.
By regularly presenting questions to check your knowledge, you combine learning with active self-assessment. No monotonous frontal teaching – rather long-term retention and success!

The basics are presented to you intermittently with memorable examples. Then follows a structured analysis of skin lesions: while we explain the criteria to you, we mark these at the same time in our videos.
